About the Job:
MAS Active, a prestigious establishment in Sri Lanka for over 17 years, focuses on Activewear, Athleisure, Performance wear, and Men’s essentials. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Manager – Material Development to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing raw materials at cost-competitive prices while ensuring quality and lead times are met. You will identify and evaluate different supplier competencies, provide seasonal trend collections, and deliver innovative fabric presentations to facilitate new business and promote MAS’s vertical supply chain.
Key Accountabilities:
- Supply Chain Strategy:
- Coordinate with the Divisional Manager (Material & Innovation) to develop a robust supply chain management strategy.
- Source raw materials aligning with customer timelines at the most competitive prices, ensuring required quality standards and lead times.
- Ensure on-time delivery to customers by managing the supply chain effectively.
- Development Projects:
- Contribute to ongoing and special development projects to add value to the Sourcing Division through innovation.
- Work closely with the Director of Sourcing & Innovation to implement innovative solutions.
- Supplier and Fabric Mill Management:
- Identify and monitor specific competencies and capabilities of different suppliers and fabric mills.
- Evaluate new suppliers, their machinery, lab capabilities, and product mix to ensure they can deliver timely, high-quality products.
- Innovation and Trend Collections:
- Provide innovative sourcing and supply chain seasonal trend collections to the Business Director.
- Conduct customer presentations to secure new business opportunities.
- Cost and Lead Time Quoting:
- Facilitate business teams in quoting costs and lead times for new products and styles within specified timelines.
- Aim to obtain the most profitable businesses by ensuring accurate and competitive quotes.
- Pre-Production Meetings:
- Conduct pre-production meetings with suppliers, plants, and business teams.
- Coordinate with the Manager of Material (Quality) to highlight and address all risks before commencing production.
- New Fabric Development:
- Monitor the new fabric development process and guide material developers.
- Ensure adherence to customer standards and requirements within specific timelines and competitive prices.
- Oversee that fabric and lab dip developments occur according to the customer development calendar and are routed through the PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) system.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Educational Background:
- Textile-related degree (Engineering preferred).
- Diploma in Textile & Clothing.
- Work Experience:
- 3 to 4 years of relevant work experience.
- 4+ years in the Apparel Industry.
- 3+ years working in the Seamless industry.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Deep technical knowledge of yarn and fabric.
- Skills:
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
